Coin collecting is a hobby that will never go out of style. One of the things I fondly recall doing with my pa when I was young was looking through his collection of favorite coins that he kept in a metal tobacco tin. He would show me each coin and tell me the story behind it.

It’s been at least 2 millennia since Commemorative coins have been used by people. Ancient Rome was among the first states to celebrate important events in their history by issuing gold and silver coins. Coins portray famous people, beautiful places, grand events. A commemorative coin is provided most of the time by a commetee in charge of the occasion to be commemorated and it’s sold at a price h igher than the face value of the coin.

The use of the ancient Roman Republic coins was not limited to thier buying power but also to communicate a connotation or an idea by their designers and writings. The first image illustrated on the coins was that of the entire Roman state, which was released in the era of Roman Republic in 150-100 BC. The images, which were to appear on the coins, were decided by the Tresiviri monetales usually known as the “tri of money men”. Julius Caesar, during the last part of the Republic, had raised these numbers to four from three. However, the position of these trios of money men ceased during the middle of the third century.
